DATABASE STATISTICS

As at 10th January 2025 there are around 314,000 records in this database with contributions from over 150 reliable sources.

The largest contributor is the late Bob Stone from Exeter (93,214 records) followed by Sean Greenslade, also from Exeter (67,789 records). Other major contributors are Roger Geach (22,486 records) and Andy Braund (25,167 records) and the late Adrian Curtis with whom I regularly exchanged photographs and information. My own records are also included and I am indebted to all the people who have taken time to send in information.

The total of Diesel-Hydraulic records at the above date is 138,560 broken down as follows:

Class 22 – 6,783 records

Class 35 – 7,454 records

Class 41/42/43 Warship – 37,508 records

Class 52 Western – 86,815 records

A question that often crops up is which Western was most common and which rarest.

This will depend on where you lived of course and as the majority of these records are West Country based, then Canton and Landore ones would likely be less common than Laira ones.

Time in service also has a huge bearing on this result but out of general interest the most recorded Class 52 is D1023 Western Fusilier (2,155 records), and the least D1020 Western Hero (588 records).

I hope to include the full last one day.
